I photographed this scene during my winter 2016 visit to Zion National Park. I spent several days wandering the washes on the East side of Zion in search of an interesting mix of ice and stones. This was one of the few parts of the wash that wasn't completely covered in snow.

Each afternoon, the washes filled with pools of water from melting snow. At night, these pools froze over, and the remaining water drained out creating an array of ice crystals hanging delicately above the sand and rocks of the wash below.
