This eBook represents an interesting departure from my existing series of educational publications. Scans of my handwritten journal are paired with unedited images of my original film atop a lightbox. It’s through these unpolished images and unpolished thoughts that I share the complete thought process behind my work, including the specifics of each composition. Toward the end of this 75-page eBook, I present my final portfolio images alongside the original film and share my thoughts on the completed work.

With this now being the second volume of my unpolished series, I’ve come to embrace this new format by including longer journal entries alongside my original transparencies. I’ve also included scans of Instax photos taken in the field, along with occasional still frames from my video journals to further tell the story of each trip.

Composition and Storytelling (2019)

My goal with Composition and Storytelling, my first eBook, is to articulate my complete thought process while evaluating subjects and compositions.
In this 38 page eBook, I dig deep into my own creative process, and discuss the methods I use to find subjects, and establish effective compositions. This discussion includes the topic of storytelling in landscape photography—along with the eleven visual principles that I try to incorporate into my own work. In the final chapter, I include seven case studies of my favorite photos, and I share my complete thought process behind their creation.
