In this week's video, I share some of my OLD photos. These are photos I shot 17 years ago when I was just getting started with landscape photography. I haven't seen these photos for many years, and only recently discovered them through an archived version of my old website.
2018 Portfolio Box Set PREORDER
Hello Everyone! I have been hard at work producing prints for my 2018 Portfolio Box Set. I have already selected 8 photos to appear, but that number should increase to 10 or 12 photos after my fall trip. Each photo is printed on a hand-trimmed 8x10" sheet of Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta paper with a thin white border. The box can be displayed on a bookshelf, on a coffee table, or individual photos can be framed if you wish. It's all up to you.
Every box set includes a title page that is individually signed and numbered, as well as an information sheet printed on vellum. Each photo is initialed and numbered on the back as part of the series. The portfolio box set is wrapped in a hand-glued sleeve that is printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper.
This year's box set is an edition of 200, and I hope to be able to ship all preorders by late November, just in time for Christmas. Last year, I had a supply issue with the archival boxes, but this year I have already acquired enough of them to complete the entire edition.

Portfolio Reviews & Skype Sessions
I just updated the services section of my site with more information about the Portfolio Reviews and Skype Sessions that I offer. I have offered these services for a while now, but I really haven't done a lot of work promoting them. Both services are quite simple, and are based on requests that I have had through the years.
With the portfolio review, I will go through a gallery of up to 10 photos and write a detailed analysis on each photo including my initial impression, as well as thoughts on composition, subject matter, processing, and overall execution. Each portfolio review takes me on average 3 to 4 hours to complete. For more details, please be sure to visit the Services Page.
The Skype sessions are a bit more open ended. If you have questions about landscape photography, large format technique, or some of the locations that I am knowledgable about, I would be more than happy to sit down and chat. Colorado Plateau 2018: Day 7
Here is my Day 7 video from my Spring trip a couple days ahead of when it goes live on YouTube. I was able to use the rainy conditions to my advantage and expose a couple sheets of film. I'm not in love with the photos, but it certainly felt good to click the shutter after several days of just wandering around. Thanks as always for watching!

On the 6th day of my trip, I set out into Capitol Reef to scout for new subjects. The weather became a little bit of an issue, but I made the most of it.

On the 5th day of my trip, I woke up in Capitol Reef National Park, and set out to explore some areas that I hadn't been to before. This marks my 3rd annual visit to this very interesting national park. I look forward to exploring it for many years to come.

To be honest, not a heck of a lot happened on day 4 of my spring trip. This day marked the end of my backpacking trip, and I made the drive to my next location: Capitol Reef National Park.
Colorado Plateau 2018: Day 3
On the third day of my spring trip, I awoke in the canyon, then set out to find some more subjects. I think on future trips, I will find a way to carry just two film holders, and a box of film along with a film changing bag. It is so easy to burn through all my film in just a couple days.
Large Format Resource Page
For the past few weeks, I have quietly working on a new section of my website — a resource page for large format film. This page contains information about the cameras, lenses, tripods, and film stocks I use, along with recommendations for light meters, cable releases, and film changing tents. This is a resource that I will continue to build in the coming months, including a knowledge base with information about both exposure, and also lens movements.

On the second day of my spring trip to Southern Utah, I got an early start, and made the 7 mile trek into a canyon that I visited for the first time last year. I carried with me 5 film holders, which allowed me to take a maximum of 10 photos over the course of the multi-day backpacking trip. Thanks for watching and sharing!

Pixel Peeping a 709 Megapixel Scan
Recently a good friend of mine Michael Strickland purchased a very high resolution drum scanner. I sent him some film to scan, and he did an experiment where he scanned one of my sheets of film at 709.6 megapixels. To do this, he had to scan it in multiple pieces, then assemble it in photoshop. This would be impractical for most situations, but it was a good test of what's possible. First, here is a web sized version of the file.

I recently posted a video where I shared some 100% crops of this image, and talked about the challenges of setting the focus and lens movements for this photo. Since I have an older computer monitor and my screen capture resolution isn't very high, I figured I would post some 100% samples for people to check out. 2017 Portfolio Box Set
Now that I have returned from my fall trip to Zion, it's time to start working on my big project for the end of the year: my 2017 Portfolio Box Set. Each box contains all of my portfolio shots from the year, printed on 8x10" German Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta paper with pigment inks. I already have 8 photos included from my winter and spring trips, and more photos will be included from my fall trip. My Zion film is currently at the lab, and will be able to start working my way through that trip in the coming days. I estimate another 3 to 4 photos will be included from that trip for a total of about a dozen prints.
The box sets are had made by yours truly, and all the materials are acid-free. The box can be displayed on a bookshelf, on a coffee table, or you can even frame the individual prints if you wish.
The box set will be an edition of 125, and I have already produced the first 40 (I'm just waiting on the Zion photos). I expect to ship the first batch of 40 preorders by mid December, and the other orders after that will be shipped a bit later.

On the sixth day of my trip, I awoke to cloudy skies. I needed clear skies for reflected light, so I decided to take a tour of the East side of the park.
