I photographed this scene on my fall 2025 trip to Zion National Park. I’ve always loved the look of backlit ponderosa trees against walls of sandstone, but they are difficult to photograph on large format cameras that lack telephoto lenses. It was on my 2025 visit that I found this beautiful tree against a massive wall of sandstone that was possible to compose with a lens only slightly longer than a normal lens.
