I photographed this scene on my spring 2026 backpacking trip to the canyons of southern Utah. I first noticed this large sage the evening before I photographed this. It’s located in a deep bend of the canyon and is in harsh light much of the day, but is bathed in a wonderful glow by late afternoon. While hiking back to camp, I stopped in my tracks to admire this scene, made note of the time, and made plans to photograph it the following evening.
