I photographed this scene on my winter 2026 trip to Death Valley National Park. It was toward the end of my trip, and I happened to find this wonderful subject only steps from where my truck was parked. Significant rainfall in the months leading up to this trip led to an above-average wildflower bloom throughout the park. Although fields of wildflowers are a wonderful sight, I very much prefer these sort of subjects with visual contrast between the flowers and a dead desert holly shrub.
