I photographed this scene on my fall 2024 trip to Zion National Park. I’ve always loved the look the maple roots that grow along the sandy banks of the washes on Zion’s east side, but they’re often chaotic and difficult to photograph. On this particular year, I found a wonderfully structured maple root among sand and leaves after a gentle rain helped to simplify the scene.
