I photographed this scene on my fall 2013 visit to Zion National Park. It was on this trip that I became fascinated with scenes that are a more honest portrayal of nature that tell a story. This fallen cottonwood tree was in the process of deteriorating, and returning its nutrients to the soil to give life to a future generation of plants.
