I photographed this scene on my autumn 2022 visit to Zion National Park. I found this scene in the cool shade of a nearby slot canyon while wandering the washes. The recent rain left behind a fascinating array of mud ripples, including this section with a clay-like coating that was cracking and peeling. This wind-blown oak leaf was nestled among the mud ripples and placed by nature. I worked quickly to expose this sheet of film before the light faded. This was my favorite photo from that visit to Zion.
