I photographed this scene on my fall 2012 trip to Zion National Park. This is a grove of maple trees that I've returned to year after year, but it was in 2012 that the conditions were ideal for me to take a photograph.

I set up my camera in the morning, then waited for a canyon wall high above the trees in the background to be bathed in the first light of morning. This light reflected into the canyon, providing a wonderfully soft and warm backlighting for the delicate maple leaves.
