Ponderosa & Maple

Ponderosa & Maple

from 299.00

I photographed this scene on my fall 2015 visit to Zion National Park. While wandering the washes on the east side of the park, I hiked past this tree coming from the other direction. I liked the look of the maple flanking the massive ponderosa pine trunk, but the lighting wasn't quite right, and the tree looked less than ideal.

When I once again hiked past this scene while returning to my truck, I saw that the back side of the tree was very clean, and the lighting was ideal. It pays to look all around you while looking for subjects. Sometimes there is a great photo from only a slightly different angle.

If you would like to know more of the story behind this photo, please watch my video journal at the bottom of this page. It was filmed the day that I took this photo.
