I photographed this scene on my winter 2025 trip to Death Valley National Park. While exploring a new canyon the year before, I found this scene, but wasn’t sure when the light would be best. When I returned to Death Valley, it was my goal to spend time at this scene, and learn when it would receive the best light. As it turns out, the window of light is quite short for this scene, only a handful of minutes. I missed the light on my first attempt, but returned earlier the following day and walked away with the photo I had set out to capture.
