I photographed this scene on my spring 2013 backpacking trip to Glen Canyon in Southern Utah. These side canyons of the Escalante River are an absolute paradise with mature cottonwood trees, singing birds, and a warm soothing breeze. By contrast, the area above this canyon is very harsh, and exposed to the hot desert sun. This photo was taken on color negative film because of the strong contrast between bright and dark tones.
