In the Shadow of a Giant

from 299.00

I photographed this intimate landscape on my fall 2015 visit to Zion National Park. It snowed the day before, and much of the color on the east side of Zion was well past peak.

This small maple was just beginning to change color because it lives in the shadow of a giant Ponderosa Pine tree. The pine tree provides the maple with shelter from the harsh summer sun, and the cold winter snow. The fallen needles and pine cones from the tree provide a wonderful backdrop to the vibrant fall color.

If you would like to know more of the story behind this photo, please watch my video journal at the bottom of this page. It was filmed the day that I took this photo.
