Soul of the Ancients

from 299.00

I photographed this intimate landscape on my summer 2012 visit to the White Mountains in central California. Bristlecone Pines are trees that live thousands of years in harsh conditions that few other plants can tolerate.

On this particular evening, I found a wonderful composition of a rock that is embedded within the root ball of an ancient Bristlecone Pine. I loved how the rock was emerging from the tree as it slowly decayed, yet the tree seemed to embrace the rock. I felt as though this was the very soul of this ancient forest.

If you would like to know more of the story behind this photo, please watch my video journal at the bottom of this page. It was filmed the day that I took this photo.
